James Becker is a Financial Literacy Specialist who focuses on teaching financial literacy skills to teenagers and young adults. This includes developing comfort and competency with, but not limited to:
- Healthy and sustainable spending and saving habits
- Understanding how financial institutions work
- The basics of credit scores and credit reports
- College financial aid and managing student loans
James is the founder of Your Money Matters, a personal finance advisory service that provides individualized personal finance guidance and customized workshops to school groups, employers, adult education classes, and community non-profits around issues of retirement planning, the college financial aid process, and financial literacy generally.
James has an MBA from the Yale University School of Management and a degree in Economics, from Brown University. As an educator, he has taught in different venues – as a high school math teacher, a teaching assistant in graduate school and a finance instructor to the Nicaraguan Central Bank – and is familiar with the challenges of presenting information in a manner that will be engaging and understood to all groups. Additionally, he has a career as an Internet entrepreneur and business executive. Finally, and most important of all, he has two young adult daughters and they both opened Roth IRAs as soon as they had reportable income.
